NAAN BREAD

This is a lovely simple naan bread recipe. It takes 3-4min to bake in the oven and they taste hundred times better than the ones you would buy from the supermarket.

Makes 5-7 Naan breads

Ingredients:

450g organic plain or bread flour

10g fresh yeast

150ml milk

1tsp Himalayan salt

1 free range egg

2 tbsp olive oil

150ml natural/plain yogurt

Melted butter for brushing the naan breads before baking

Directions:

  1. Put the flour in a large bowl and add the salt. Mix well the fresh yeast and milk, add the olive oil too. Pour it into the flour. Add the yogurt and egg. Mix it and then transfer into flat floured surface and knead for approx. 10min to make a soft, elastic dough.

  2. Put the dough back into the bowl, cover with cling film and leave it in a warm place for 1 and a half hours or until it has doubled in size.

  3. Once the dough has doubled in size, dived it into 5-7 pieces (depending on how big you prefer the naan breads to be and rolled them out into the traditional naan teardrop shape. Rest for 20min to half hour.

  4. Brush them on top with melted butter and line them up on well-floured peel ready for the oven.

  5. Open the oven door, place the naan breads on the base of the oven and cook for 3-4min, until they puff up and are golden-brown on top. The oven door stays open while cooking.

  6. Serve with curry or Balti. Bon appetite!

Oven cooking instructions:

  1. Build up the fire in the oven until it reaches around 350 degrees C. It will take you approx. an hour to do this.

  2. Once you have achieved the correct temperature close the oven door to retain the heat.
